Welcome!

When I came to the University of Idaho, it wasn't long before I found the student radio station on my dial. The DJs played interesting music that I had only heard on the internet before, or between the hours of midnight and 4 a.m. on the NPR affiliate of Boise, KBSU. When I'd lived at home, learning about independent music was difficult. 89.3 became a fixture on my radio alarm clock in my dorm and the bane of my room-mate's existence -she thought it was too weird and noisy. For me, KUOI was an education. I taped shows that I really enjoyed, but didn't understand that I too could become a DJ. When I started going to house shows, I realized that everyone who was playing music or making art that I enjoyed was also a DJ at KUOI. So continued my infatuation with radio...

This blog is a resource for the students of the University of Idaho's Upward Bound Broadcasting Class of 2008. In this class, UB participants host radio shows on UI's student radio station, KUOI 89.3 FM, in Moscow, Idaho. The radio shows are comprised of a variety of content types: music, interviews, public service announcements, essays, and anything else the students create during their summer broadcasting class.

In this class, you'll have some basic websites that will be useful almost any day:
Your radio station - KUOI 89.3 FM
A comprehensive site about music - All Music

Online, you can listen to KUOI live, read the station's history -they've been around for 60 years, and you can check out what other Upward Bound and UI Journalism students have produced in the News blog. You can also listen to some 2007 UB Broadcasting podcasts at the UI Upward Bound website.

Long Live KUOI!
Yours Truly,
Arlie Sommer
UB Broadcasting Instructor
